Michigan Native Kid Rock Headlining Alternative to Bad Bunny's Halftime Super Bowl Performance

The halftime show at Super Bowl 59 in San Francisco is turning into a bit of a political football.

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio of Puerto Rico—aka Bad Bunny, aka the “King of Latin Trap”—who is the halftime headliner, created a stir Sunday while accepting a Grammy for Album of the Year.

“Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say: ‘ICE out. We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans.’”

Now, Turning Point USA, the organization founded by Charlie Kirk, is sponsoring an alternative halftime show dubbed “The All-American Halftime Show.” It’s being billed as “CELEBRATING FAITH, FAMILY & FREEDOM.”

The show's headline act is Michigan native Kid Rock, along with country music singers Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett, and will air on several platforms, including Turning Point USA’s YouTube channel, OAN News, and TBN.

“We’re approaching this show like David and Goliath,” Kid Rock said in a statement. “Competing with the pro football machine and a global pop superstar is almost impossible…or is it?”

President Donald Trump has said he won’t attend the Super Bowl and thinks Bad Bunny is a “terrible” choice, calling it “absolutely ridiculous.”

Retired Detroit radio personality Peter Werbe weighed in on the alternative show featuring Kid Rock, writing on Facebook:

“Get the racism here? ‘All American,’ like Grammy Award-winning Bad Bunny isn’t an American. Can someone inform these people that Puerto Rico is part of the U.S.?”
