Updated: 10:26 p.m. Wednesday: The Washtenaw County Jail's virtual phone system said that fired U-M Coach Sherrone Moore, 39, was booked in the jail on Hogback Road in Ann Arbor Wednesday night, but provided no information on charges.

Pittsfield Township Police said Wednesday night on Facebook that they were called around 4:10 p.m. to a home in the 3000 Block of Ann Arbor Saline Road, Pittsfield Twp. to investigate an allegation of an assault and that a suspect had been taken into custody. The statement did not mention Moore by name.

The university announced his firing in an email to the media at 4:43 p.m. It's unclear when he was actually fired.

The Pittsfield Township Police issued a statement on Facebook:

The Pittsfield Police Department responded to the above location at the above date and time for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault. The Department has received multiple media requests for information. A suspect in this case was taken into custody.

This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community.  The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor. At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as permissible.

Michael James, a former sports reporter for the New York Daily News and Detroit News, reports on his substack page what he calls an "unconfirmed rumor:"

According to sources in Michigan, where the rumors of Moore’s affair have been circulating on messages boards for weeks, the embattled Moore caught wind of coaches meeting closed-door without him and went to the home of the woman and threatened her with a knife.

Moore married in 2015 and has three daughters, according to his Wikipedia page.
