A 95-year-old woman who accidentally ran over a woman following a three-vehicle crash on October 3 in Wixom was sentenced Tuesday to nine months of house arrest, followed by 24 months of reporting while on probation, the Oakland Press reports.

Phyllis Stafford, 95, of Milford Township, who has been employed at the 52-1 District Court in Novi for more than 50 years, will wear a monitor while under house arrest. She pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge last month, which means she neither admitted nor denied guilt but agreed to accept the punishment.

Bloomfield Hills 48th District Judge Diane D’Agostini also said she would be required to perform 75 hours of community service.

According to the Oakland Press:

The crash occurred when Sarah Jane Thexton, 59, of Novi, was driving a Honda CR-V, stopped in traffic behind a Ford F350 driven by a Wolverine Lake resident. Stafford, driving a Nissan Versa, failed to stop and struck the Honda CR-V. Thexton then exited her vehicle and was standing near its driver’s door when the Versa accelerated forward, hit the Honda, and ran over her. Thexton was trapped under the Versa, which stopped a short distance from the crash.

The publication reports that Stafford will no longer drive.
