Jim Costa, who has been a fill-in during day shifts and weekends on Detroit's 97.1 The Ticket, will replace Mike "Stoney" Stone, who plans to leave his show after this NFL season, a source tells Deadline Detroit.
Costa came to the station from Grand Rapids more than two years ago.
Stoney, who turns 65 in December, recently announced his departure from the show he hosts with former Michigan and Lions lineman Jon Jansen. After his departure, he plans to be a regular fill-in host for at least two years.
This season he plans to co-host the Detroit Lions postgame show with WJBK-TV’s (Channel 2) Jennifer Hammond, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Stone, a Philadelphia native, joined 97.1 The Ticket in 2009.
Costa, who graduated with a broadcast and cinematic arts degree from Central Michigan in 2015, was a sports talk host for iHeart Media in Grand Rapids for five years before coming to 97.1 The Ticket. For part of that time in Grand Rapids, he was also the program director.
A spokesman for Audacy, which owns the station, declined comment Tuesday. Costa did not respond to an email via Linkedin for comment.
